The purpose of AE control is to discover a phenomenon of developing and defects or leakage liable to develop (appearing in course of load variation), to determine the location and to evaluate the danger thereof.
Quantitative specifications of any discovered dangerous defects such as dimensions, orientation etc. are determined with standard methods of non-destructive inspection (ultrasound non-destructive inspection, X-ray etc.). The inspection of the objects is carried out in conformity with AE control methods with help of AE equipment.
AE method is applied to diagnose large-sized and high load objects of high danger and the objects with restricted access to the surface of control which include to the full extent pressure vessels, pipelines, boilers, machines, tanks etc. the most efficient and largely applied over the last years in engineering practice is an acoustic emission method allowing to operatively and remotely discover any technological defects in course of production and operational defects in course of operation of the equipment.
